Long time no see!
Hiii! It’s time for my once-every-two-years blog post again, which means that I... made a new version of my blog. I’ve honestly lost count of which version this is. I don’t even save what the old ones looked like anymore — I’d run out of disk space. I always want to make it better.
The thing is, I’ve always dreamed of having this ridiculously pretentious, loud personal page on the internet that whistles, farts, sparks and does all kinds of unnecessary shit. And with AI getting better, coming up with and building stuff like that has become way easier. I recently tried the newly released Claude Design and gave it the prompt: “MAKE ME SOMETHING FUCKING BEAUTIFUL, LIKE AWWWARDS LEVEL,” and it started generating all kinds of garbage. But after enough suffering, arguing and polishing, I managed to get it into something decent. Then I added a bull there too (don’t ask)... Still not pretentious enough though, so see you again in a couple of years, on yet another new blog! 🤣
Kidding. Probably sooner. Because I suddenly have an insane amount of ideas for what I want to build there and how I want it to work. And I also suddenly really want to start writing about my life again. Unfortunately, there’s a reason for that: I was diagnosed with cancer this year. I’m getting treatment, everything is okay, and I probably got one of the most “harmless” cancers you could possibly get. But I’ll write about that properly later.
The whole situation actually gave me a huge amount of energy. And during treatment my brain started working better too. I realized that the brain fog I’d had for the last few years was most likely connected to the disease slowly developing in the background. Once treatment started, I got a whole new set of weird problems, obviously, but mentally it feels like everything went back to normal. Maybe even better than normal. I suddenly have so much energy and so many ideas that I have no fucking clue when or how I’m supposed to build all of them.
For example, I rebuilt my old Feeedy into flooow, and at the same time I’m building another little project called Reeve — a fully vibe-coded media manager. I mostly started it because I wanted to see how real this whole “future of software development” thing actually is. So far, my impression is that it takes roughly the same amount of time as writing everything myself. Saving time on physically typing code isn’t always the part that actually takes most of the time. At the same time, you have way less control over what’s happening. I don’t even look at the code anymore. I only look at the result — the app itself, how it behaves, and whether I’m happy with it. There are tons of iterations, tons of wrong implementations, misunderstandings between me and the machine, running into limits, and all kinds of other bullshit. But yeah, I probably haven’t written a single line of code by hand in the last four months. Including at work. It’s a weird feeling.
Either way, yeah, I miss writing code “by hand,” but I also understand that I’ll probably never really write anything manually again. Still, there clearly has to be a better approach to agentic coding than just Claude Code. From what I’ve seen, if you actually care about high-quality code, none of the skills, wrappers, pipelines or other fancy setups really help yet. Most of the time they just add noise. And the models themselves aren’t giving us those 10x improvements we keep expecting from every new release anymore. If anything, the trend lately seems to be going in the opposite direction. Yesterday’s Opus 4.8 could destroy tasks like they were nothing and constantly surprised me with how good it was. Today, after Fable came out, it already feels like it’s turning into a pumpkin. And Fable itself, despite all the... fables... somehow doesn’t even feel as good as Opus 4.8 did just a few days earlier.
And I think this instability and unpredictability creates a completely new kind of burnout, which I’m feeling pretty strongly right now. Maybe part of it is the illness and the treatment, sure. But there’s something fundamentally broken about this whole vibe-coding thing that feels like it’s killing my last remaining brain cells and, somehow, even a little bit of my soul. I can feel it very clearly, but I still can’t point at one specific reason. I’ll think about it properly and write another post about it.
Other than that, I just want to write a lot more. Out of everything creative I’ve tried over the years, writing articles is the only thing that has ever consistently put me into a real flow state. Not music, not playing instruments, not games, not coding, nothing. Writing does. And I’ve never really cared if nobody reads any of it. I just fucking enjoy doing it 🥹
